The business objectives of the data migration was to ensure that:
- Staff in the existing 38 organisations could continue to complete their daily duties and fulfil their obligations with minimal disruption and system down-time.
- Completed, cleansed, consistent, and deduplicated registration data was migrated into the new core registration application health professions to support the core operations of the new Agency by ‘go-live’ (1 July 2010).
- Core systems electronic legacy data, legacy file/server data, paper files and any other relevant reference material to complement core functions were still accessible post ‘go-live’.
- Enough data was assembled from all sources to be able to generate a mailing to practitioners on 1 April 2010.
Technically, DCA had to migrate 1.2 million items of data from 38 data sources of varying format and technology including Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Access, Firefox Pro and others into a single database using the Pivotal/NRAS data model, and upload this data into NRAS.
